What It Is

Hands have their own specialist.

Your hands are how you do your job, hold your kid, and sign your name. You do not get to put them on a shelf and wait. And a hand does not hold still while you do. Scar sets, joints stiffen, and motion gets harder to win back the longer it sits.

Certified hand therapy is rehab of the hand, wrist, elbow and forearm by a therapist who works on that one region all day. CHT is the board certification for it: a graduate degree, 4,000 hours of hand practice, and a board exam. Most clinics do not have one. Our Certified Hand Therapists hold it.

So no, this is not a massage, and it is not a brace handed to you at a front desk. It is a cause-first evaluation, splints heated and molded on your arm in the room, and hands-on work that changes as your hand changes. All of it one-on-one with a licensed Occupational Therapist, several board-certified in hand therapy (CHT), every visit.

What It Helps

Where certified hand therapy earns its place.

If any of these is the reason you are reading this page, you are in the right spot.

What A Session Looks Like

Three steps, every visit.

1

We measure the hand and ask what it will not do yet.

2

Warmth, hands-on work, and a splint check. You set the pressure.

3

You leave with the exercises and where you are in the plan.

What You Get Back

Four things worth getting back.

A grip that opens the jar lid.

Buttons, keys and zippers, back.

Motion won before the scar sets.

A straight answer about your hand.

Questions, Answered

Hand therapy, no mystery.

You will feel work, not injury. The first of the four phases is Pain, and it comes first for a reason: we settle swelling and irritation down before we ask the hand to do anything hard. Hands-on work happens at a pressure you set, and it stops the moment you say so. Your therapist tells you what is about to happen and why, before it happens.

Tissue heals on its own timeline, and yours depends on the injury and the repair, so we will not invent a number here. What you get instead is a plan with an endpoint. Your cause-first evaluation ends with the order of operations: Pain, Prime, Perform, Prevent. Each phase has a job and a way to know you have earned the next one, so you always know where you are.

Most of our patients reach us by referral from a surgeon or a physician, and many insurance plans require one before they will pay. Some plans do not. Rather than guess, call us at (360) 989-1200 and we will look at your plan with you and tell you exactly what it needs before you come in.

We are an insurance-based clinic and we bill most major carriers, including Regence BCBS, Aetna, Cigna, Medicare, Providence and auto insurance. The full list is on our insurance page. We check your benefits before your first visit and tell you what we find, so the bill is not the surprise.
