Careers at Gabbert Clinic
Careers
You went to OT school to treat people. Not to treat two of them at once.
If you are an Occupational Therapist who is tired of a schedule built for volume instead of hands, read on.
Occupational therapists. Hand specialists. One patient at a time.
Our team of licensed Occupational Therapists includes board-certified hand therapists.
Treatment here is one-on-one. Your patient is your patient for the whole visit, not a name you check on between two other people.
That is the practice, and it is what our patients write about in their reviews.
The work is real hand therapy
- Splints and custom orthoses fabricated and remolded right here in the clinic, not ordered from a catalog
- Post-op hands, fractures, nerve injuries, wound, scar and edema management
- Saebo certified for neuro work: stroke, TBI, MS, Parkinson’s, spinal cord injury
- Pediatric and adult upper extremity, including congenital conditions and CRPS
- Named Best in Business 2024 by the Vancouver Business Journal
If you want to become a CHT, this is the environment that gets you there. The certification takes a graduate degree, 4,000 hours of hand practice, and a board exam. You cannot get those hours in a clinic that treats hands occasionally.
What Amy believes
Amy Gabbert, OTR/L, CHT, owns this clinic and still treats in it. Her words, not ours:
“I believe that healthcare should first and foremost be about helping people rather than making huge profits.”
She also says this, and it shapes how we plan care: “We treat each patient as an individual because the right treatment for one patient is not necessary the right treatment for another patient, even if they technically have the same diagnosis.”
The culture, plainly
Positive and upbeat, with the patient’s needs first. That is the standard, and it is held.
You will be asked to think. As Amy puts it, simply following protocols without a deep understanding of how we heal does not yield good results.
Who tends to fit here
- Occupational Therapists who already hold the CHT
- Occupational Therapists working toward it, or seriously considering it
- Therapists who like the splint bench and the problem-solving that comes with it
- Anyone who would rather do one thing well than everything at once
