The 30-Second Pain Check

Not sure where to start?

Three taps. No forms. Tell us what stopped working and how long it has been that way.

Where does it hurt, or what stopped working?

The Recovery Journey

A plan you can see. Progress you can feel.

You’ll never wonder if it’s working. Four phases, each with a job to do and a way to know you’ve earned the next one.

Phase 1 of 4

Starts visit one

Pain

Calm it down. Protect the healing.

  • Hands-on work on the pain, the swelling and the scar, starting your very first visit
  • If you need an orthosis, it’s fabricated here and remolded as your hand changes
  • You’ve earned the next phase when the swelling settles and gentle motion stops being a fight
Close-up of hands-on therapy work on a patient’s hand and fingers

Once the pain settles

Prime

Win the motion back.

  • Targeted work on the stiff joints, the tight tendons and the scar that are holding your hand shut
  • A home program dosed to your tissue and where it is in healing, not a generic sheet
  • You’ve earned the next phase when the motion you win in the room is still there at your next visit
Therapist performing hands-on soft tissue work on a patient’s forearm

Once the motion holds

Perform

Make it strong enough to trust.

  • Graded strength and grip work built up to what your hands actually get asked to do
  • Practice on the real thing: jar lids, buttons, tools, a steering wheel, a full grocery bag
  • You’ve earned the next phase when you stop bracing, and stop planning your day around the hand
Therapist guiding a patient through a standing resistance band exercise

Before you’re discharged

Prevent

Keep what you got back.

  • We change how you grip, lift and type, so the same tissue stops taking the same beating
  • A short keep-it program you will actually do, built around your job and your kitchen
  • Clear discharge criteria: you’ll know when you’re done, and so will the doctor who sent you

Not sure which phase you’re in? That’s exactly what the evaluation is for.

Why Gabbert Clinic

You’ve maybe done therapy before. Not like this.

Your hands are how you do your job, hold your kid, and sign your name. You don’t get to put them on a shelf and wait. So here is what matters: hand therapy is its own board certification, and most clinics don’t have one. Our licensed Occupational Therapists include Certified Hand Therapists who have earned it.

One-on-one, every visit

You’ll never be handed off to an aide or share your therapist with three other patients.

02

Board-certified hand therapists

CHT takes a graduate degree, 4,000 hours of hand practice, and a board exam. Our Certified Hand Therapists hold it.

03

Your splint is made in this building

Custom orthoses are fabricated here and remolded as your hand changes shape. No shipping it off and waiting.

04

We handle the insurance maze

We check your benefits before your first visit and tell you exactly what we find.

Your First Visit

Know exactly what to expect.

No mystery, no surprises: here’s your first visit with us, in order, from the door to the plan.

Step 01

You’re greeted by name.

Paperwork’s done at home. We already have your referral and we’ve already checked your benefits.

Step 02

We measure, and we listen.

Motion, grip, sensation, swelling. Then the question nobody has asked yet: what have you stopped being able to do?

Step 03

Treatment starts today.

Hands-on work on visit one. If you need a splint, it’s molded to your hand right here. Nothing gets forced.

Step 04

You leave with the plan.

What’s wrong, which of the four phases you’re starting in, what to do tonight, and what has to be true before you’re done.

One visit. You walk out knowing what’s wrong, who is treating it, and what happens next.

Amy & her staff are amazing! They really take their time with you to make sure they are taking care of any & all issues you are having. Gabbert Clinic has been helpful, caring and supportive in their therapy to reestablish strength and dexterity to my finger. Following the surgery to repair my damaged finger, they have regularly modified the cast to meet the changing needs of my finger as the healing has progressed. Thank you Gabbert Clinic!

They really do know all about hands. I wish I had their expertise when I first injured my hand 2 years ago. My wrist is healing quickly. And since it’s my dominate hand, they have given me great ideas to accomplish tasks in other ways.

The Honest Truth

Pain rarely waits with you.

Stiffness does not pause while you think it over. Here are both paths.

If you keep waiting

  • Scar tissue keeps laying down, and it sets in the position you leave it
  • A stiff joint gets stiffer, and motion is easier to keep than to win back
  • The good hand takes over, and the injured one keeps losing strength
  • Jar lids, buttons and the steering wheel stay on the list you avoid

If you start this week

  • A cause-first evaluation with a licensed Occupational Therapist: visit one
  • Splints fabricated and remolded here, as your hand changes
  • A plan with an endpoint: Pain, Prime, Perform, Prevent
  • You leave knowing what is wrong and what happens next

Nobody regrets starting too early. Read our reviews and you will find people who wish they had come sooner.

The Boring Stuff, Handled

Insurance and paperwork, without the headache.

Plans we accept

We check your benefits before your first visit and tell you exactly what we find. Being on this list is not the same as your plan covering therapy, so we verify yours.

  • Aetna
  • Cigna
  • Humana
  • Medicare
  • Regence BCBS
  • And more

Don’t see your plan? Call us. We’ll check for you: (360) 989-1200

Out-of-network with Molina and United Health Care. We can still see you and give you what you need to file for reimbursement.

Know before you come in

Send us your insurance details. We verify what your plan covers, then call you with the answer. No guessing at the front desk.

Your details are used only to verify your coverage, nothing else. Then a real person calls you with what your plan says.

Questions, Answered

Everything you’re wondering before you book.

Straight answers: no medical jargon, no runaround.

Most of our patients arrive on a referral from a surgeon or a physician, and many insurance plans require one before they will pay for therapy. Some plans do not. Tell us your plan when you call and we will find out what yours needs, then help you get it, so paperwork is not the thing holding up your hand.

You leave your first visit with a plan that has an endpoint. We work in four phases, Pain, Prime, Perform and Prevent, and each phase has a job and a way to know you have earned the next one. The count depends on your injury, your surgery and how your tissue responds, so we give you a real number after we evaluate you, not before.

The first phase is called Pain for a reason. We calm the tissue down before we ask it to work. Your therapist stays inside what your surgeon has cleared and what your hand can tolerate that day, and you always know what we are doing and why we are doing it.

This is an insurance-based clinic and we accept most major plans, including Regence BCBS, Medicare, Providence, Aetna and Tricare. The full payer list is on our insurance page. Send your card details through the benefits check on this page and we will verify your coverage and call you with what we find.

Hand therapy is its own board certification. A Certified Hand Therapist has a graduate degree, 4,000 hours of hand practice, and a passed board exam behind the letters. Most clinics do not have one. Our Certified Hand Therapists hold it, so hands here are a sub-specialty and not a side offering.

Yes. Custom splints are fabricated here and remolded here as your hand changes, which matters because a splint that fit two weeks ago can be the reason motion stalls today. Nothing waits on an order from somewhere else.

No. Alongside hand and upper-extremity care, we treat adults after a stroke, a brain injury or a concussion, and adults living with multiple sclerosis or a spinal cord injury. The work is the same either way: the arm, the hand, and the daily tasks that depend on them.
